MARTENSEN HAS BEEN SAVED!
The Board of Education decided today not to move the following options forward:
Move all Wheat Ridge 6th grade to middle school.
21B – Close Pennington Elementary
22a – Close Martensen Elementary, move Wilmore Davis to the Jefferson artic area.
24- Expand Manning to 6 – 8th grade.
All above options are off the table to be moved forward for a vote at the Board meeting on Thursday, January 14th.
Great Job to everyone who lobbied for keeping 6th grade children in elementary school, and keeping your schools open. Your phone calls, emails, letters, and any other communications expressed, were heard. The board decided that there was to much public opposition to moving 6th grade to middle school as well as is was cost prohibitive. Which lead to a domino effect for keeping the schools open. But the Board of education did come up with three new options that will affect the Wheat Ridge area. These options will be up for a vote at the next Board meeting on Thursday, January 14th.
Option 1 – Move Martensen Elementary School into the Wheat Ridge articulation area. This means Martensen kids will feed into Everitt Middle School and Wheat Ridge High School.
Option 2 – Close Wheat Ridge Middle School.
Option 3 – Create a 7th – 12th program at Jefferson high school. – possible motion
They didn’t include Stevens Elementary in the Wheat Ridge articulation area move..
